There is an acronym called K.I.S.S. in design that expresses a key principle. This principle doesn’t matter only for design. It matters also for business owners and every person involved in the creation of products or services. The K.I.S.S. acronym stands for “Keep It Simple Stupid”. I don’t want to go here over the data that shows that this principle is proven to be right. Rather I want to explain the mindset and the benefits that come out of it.

The mindset

The K.I.S.S. mindset asks us to simplify things. Simplifying often means reusing patterns that already exists. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. This is also true for many ways to run a service or make a product.

K.I.S.S. builds clarity

If you build simple service and products, it’s logical that people will spend less time figuring how it works. If things are built with simplicity in mind they are simple to understand. This clarity will, in the end, make people stick with your product because usually competition will be much more complex. That means that the switch to another solution or service is more painful.

The more you are simple, the more it’s hard for people to switch product.

K.I.S.S. reduces costs

Simplicity takes a bit more time in the strategy phase to develop. Simplifying things isn’t an easy process. The time you’ll invest in simplifying things before the implementation will save you a lot of money. For engineering , development, building or anything else you’ll save money.

K.I.S.S. helps you ship and adapt faster

Simple services or products will be easier to build, this means you can ship faster. This is important for startups or businesses in high competitive fields of activities. Because you can ship faster you can also adapt faster. Your infrastructure will be easier to change or adapt.
